Phylum Cnidaria is the next step of advancement after Porifera. Creature existing in this Phylum include Jellyfish, Hydra, Anemones, and Corals
Support/Skeleton
Cnidarians possess a hydrostatic skeleton, which draws it's support from the surrounding water. Sensory/Nervous Cnidarians have developed a nerve net across their bodies which contain sensory neurons. Feeding/Digestion These creatures contain a gastrovascular cavity used to digest their prey. Cessile Cnidarians depend on said prey to contact their tentacles. |
Excretion/Osmoregulation
Cnidarians have a blind gut. This means that they excrete solid waste through their mouths. All other waste is removed via diffusion. Transport/Circulation Diffusion is also used to transport nutrients throughout the Cnidarians body. Gas Exchange/Respiration Once again the process of diffusion is used. |
Organisms Studied
Anemone dissection. Major Classes
Certain Cnidarians are are colonial organisms, meaning several individuals work together as one creature. |
